Meet The Man Behind Green Light Cannabis Shop
I’ve had a growing passion for Cannabis for as long as I can remember. So, after a car accident brought my career as a tradesman to a premature end, I decided to get into the Cannabis business, as the legal market was slowly taking shape.
The process to obtain licensing took years. However, in July of 2020, we officially opened as a Retail Cannabis shop.
I started with just myself behind the counter, supported by my sister checking IDs at the door. She also helps my wife on the back end, who works from home while caring for our two young daughters. Our second daughter was born the same week that we opened, so it was a crazy and exciting time.
We’ve recently expanded with an enthusiastic team of budtenders & greeters, and are open seven days a week with extended hours to meet demand. It’s a wild industry right now, but that’s what keeps me pushing to learn and grow as a business owner.
A great part of being the boss is getting to check out all of the latest products first. There are so many options right now, and for someone like myself who enjoys trying something new, it’s exciting every time the latest products hit the market.
We currently carry over 100 different types of dried flower and continue to bring in new strains weekly. I always look forward to recommending my favourites to customers as it enhances their experience with us.
I feel there is truly something to suit everyone’s tastes, and we’re here to help whether a customer is new to Cannabis or not. Our shop is a comfortable & knowledgeable place to purchase products.
Everyone is welcome and gets treated with the utmost respect. Moreover, I believe what sets the shop apart from the others is my incredible employees, and to say that I’m proud of them is an understatement.
I also attribute my success to my hard work ethic (physical and mental), not giving up when things go wrong (which happens a lot), and pushing through the challenging days when there are nothing but setbacks.
It hasn’t been easy, but I’m happy that I decided to go with my gut and follow my dream when people told me I would fail. As a result, I look back and remember the day that I received my operators’ license as my life changed for the better.
I also acknowledge that I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without the love and support of my family. I genuinely love what I do, and it’s inspired me to become a better person and a positive example for my two girls.
When I’m not in the shop, I like to spend quality time with my girls outside, preferably by the pool. Going fishing and playing golf with the boys is always a great time.
I would like to add that I strongly support small businesses during these unprecedented times. There is a family behind every small enterprise that will truly appreciate every time you choose to support them. As a result, I do my best to publicize them and buy from them.
If there’s any advice I can give as a new business owner, is that you are going to hear “no” a lot more times than you’re going to hear “yes”. Don’t let it stop you from moving forward.
